Waterford Cuvee Koffi, 50% ABV - Whisky Wednesday
Waterford has come on a long way since those first bottles released in 2020. But it hasn't all been met with graciousness.
This is the Koffi, named after the artist of this rather stunning artwork on the bottle and box. Waterford's oldest whisky to date at six years old. Matured in a combination of ex-American and French oak, and a vatting of numerous styles of their single farm origin styles of whisky, this is a rather stunning combination of Waterford's house style, as well as some welcome cask influences of fresh summer fruits.
That Waterford house style is, for me, becoming one of the most unique styles in whisky, instantly notable as soon as it hits your nose. This earthy, unpeated, p...

Thompson Bros 8YO Northern Highland Blended Malt, 44.5% - Whisky Wednesday
Просмотров 683День назад
A combination of Clynelish and Glen Ord for below £40 a bottle? Plus, it has a vintage supermarket themed label. Sign. Me. Up. This is my first Thompson Bros bottle (don't @ me), and I couldn't be happier about it. I'm not one for marketing emails, but as soon as I saw this, I bought it! The Thompson Brothers are the owners of the Dornoch Distillery, and having released some young stock, their ...

I'm ashamed to say that I haven't tried much from the SPEY distillery. Between chasing bourbon unicorns to open, strange Scotch bottles, indies, and all that stuff, this passed me by. But thankfully, not anymore! A combination of three of their own single malts, married together in a finish of first fill Tawny port, with that little bit of peat smoke ruminating throughout it. This is quite a bo...

I WON A BOTTLE OF LONGROW! Well, I entered a ballot and won the opportunity to buy it...and here it is! The 2024 release of Longrow Red has been matured for four years in ex-bourbon casks, then transferred into single estate French Pinot Noir casks for three years. Bottled at 57.1%, natural colour and non chill filtered, this is first cask strength Longrow that I'll ever get to work with in a b...

The folks at Turntabke whiskies have done it again, this time naming their cask strength blend after one of my favourite songs, from one of my favourite bands. Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger is bottled at 59.1% ABV, natural colour and non-chill filtered. But upon my first sip of this, I would never have believed it to be just over 59% ABV. I'm back again with some of the nicest blends I've ever been able to try from the folks at Turntable Spirits. Loch Lomond 8YO Distillery Edition 5, 59.1% One of the reasons that we've all come to love Loch Lomond is experimentation. Not many other distilleries have four different types of still, their own cooperage, or as huge amount of unusual and standard liquid as Loch Lomomd. Outside of that fun team up, as well as the grumpy little midgie on the front of the bottle, the cask selection goes as so: - ...

Glen Scotia 9YO Unpeated, Fino Finish. Last year's release of peated, white port cask really didn't float my boat in any way. Tried it numerous times, and it just never sat with me. • @WhiskyWednesday
      @WhiskyWednesday 18 дней назад

      Very different style to the Balvenie. You'd be best to luck at Glen Scotia Double Cask Rum finish, or even something like Oban Distiller's Edition. It isn't a rum cask, but it is wonderfully sweet on the nose, with a nice coastal finish. The Balvenie is such a sweet malt that it sits in its own little world. You should totally try this Ardnamurchan if you can, but to compare the two would be a little unequal.

    I still have a couple of drams of the 10 year Malbec finish from a few years back that cost way too much. Good stuff, but not worth $160 USD. The Longrow Red series is becoming too expensive for the liquid in the bottle, scarcity be damned.

    Glenturret 12 definitely carries itself like a much older whiskey. I had some friends over a few weeks ago and they had never heard of it. I was letting them sample some other whiskey's and at the end of the night I brought out 3 glasses of premium whiskey. In the first glass was a dram of Balvenie 25, the second glass was Glenfiddich 26 and the third I told them was a surprise. They were both amazed by it and I had them guess as to what it could be. They each said that if it were less than an 18 year they'd be shocked. Glenturret 12 is incredible and holds its own against much more premium whiskeys!

    This perhaps confirms my fear on this bottle. It’s not like I’ll be able to pick one up at this point, but past releases of Longrow Red have been some of my favorite bottles. I wonder if this is them trying to reduce some hype (a 15 would sell on secondary for twice the price but a similar retail), or perhaps they had fewer options because of the impact from the pandemic.
